Since 1960s it is known that a human being can hear ultrasound without using his ears. Ultrasound vibrations are heard with the skin and are  transmitted to the  Sacculus (the balancing organ) inside  the body. The Sacculus transmits the received impulses further as tone signals to the brain and thus "hearing with the skin" becomes possible.
