Freely suspended algae: After a few days the algae is dead. Because of the water movement the dead algae will start floating in the water after a few weeks, if the water is not filtered.  In case of a water test in a small flask or in a glass the dead algae should sink to the ground within 24 hours, living algae float further for 2-3 weeks, before they die a natural death and color the water green.   Green algae: After its death the green algae changes color to light green and become colorless.  With a hand movement in water it disintegrates and floats in water and finally falls to the ground.   Syabacteria (Blue algae) swims to the surface after its death through Biogas in its lifting body and forms a coating on the surface.

Thread algae: The algae get brown color or become colorless after its death. It swims to the surface and should be taken out.
